Mey Wong

Name: Mey Wong
Species: Human
Description: Dark hair, dark eyes, fair skin. Slender with average height. Graceful and has a certain nobility to her.

When she speaks, people usually listen and when she walks into a room, people turn their heads to look. It's not because of her looks, but there's just something about her that magnifies her presence somehow.

Mey doesn't really like attention, she prefers to stand in a corner and watch--for what? Not completely sure--but one gets the impression that she's ready for everything.

As a mother, Mey is a bit controlling and strict. She prefers to have Lei home when she's supposed to be home and when dinner time comes. She prefers to not have Lei hang around with 'those Lyall boys' as she often call them.

If Lei is late, she better have a reason or call to say where she is.

Her insistence on knowing everything about her daughter's life backfires, instead of pulling her daughter closer to her bosom (ha, yeah, I went there), she creates this great divide between them.

She should've known better really, but she has her reasons for behaving like that...and Lei would soon realize that.

Cana Lyall

Name: Cana Lyall
Species: Werewolf
Description: Blond, hazel eyes, fair-skinned (though it tans fabulously). She gripes continuously over how none of her sons look like her, moans endlessly on why she doesn't have a daughter. Cana, though a werewolf, is a natural mother hen, and because of it often plots with Channing to group all her puppies together in one spot so she can stuff them with food.

Being short (a grievance she shares with Lorelei) she gets attention by being the fiercest and fastest in the Pack. Being the Alpha Female, she's not the type to poke her nose in everybody's business (though she has a right to) but she waits for the ones with problem to come to her.

She is generally easy going but she doesn't tolerate fools at all. And anybody who pisses her off will end up slash to pieces either by claws or by the sharpness of her tongue-depends on the offense given.

She loves her boys and consider them her miracles (and since werewolves have trouble conceiving and carrying the baby to term, she is justified in regarding them exactly that) and she is willing to do anything for the good of her babies.

Caleb Lyall

Name: Caleb Lyall
Species: Wolf
Description: Like his sons, he has dark hair, dark eyes and dark complected. He is the Alpha of the Grey Path pack and the father of Colin, Channing and Cailean (yes, the Cs are a family tradition).

He is not especially strict but he does emphasis strongly on their need for secrecy and control. Like Channing, he is quiet and serious most of the time but also territorial and fiercely protective of his family. He is very observant and silently cunning. He's not the type of Alpha or wolf who likes to pick a fight, but he never steps back from a fight either.

As a father he is generous, thoughtful and indulgent. He gives his boys free rein, just enough to grow into their paws and sharpen their teeth but his word is still law.

As an Alpha he is fair and deals with pack problems with a steady hand. He is kind and is always willing to give someone a second chance but anyone who thinks he is a pushover will be quite unfortunate.

Caleb doesn't like to play pack politics but he could and play it well, if he has too.

The Grey Path Pack has over 300 members. 25 of them live in town while the others are spread over other unclaimed territories but is always close enough to defend their territory if needed.

Channing Lyall

Name: Channing Lyall
Species: Werewolf
Description: Dark hair, dark eyes, dark complected. Different than his twin, Channing and younger brother, Cailean, his body is more stocky than gangly. He is the patient one, the sensible one compared to his two brothers. He is quiet and observant and sensitive to everyone's mood. In short, he is the peace keeper in the family.

Channing is a family man, he loves kids, he loves cooking and he's the one who brings the family together whenever he feels they've been spending way too much time apart.

He dotes on Lorelei as if she is his baby sister and continually brings up the issue of adopting her into the family. Or, have her marry Cailean and be his sister-in-law instead. He's not picky about the method as long as he gets results.

Colin Lyall

Name: Colin Lyall
Species: Werewolf
Description: Dark hair, dark eyes, dark complected. (Sadly for their mother, all the boys took after their father in looks). Colin is easy going and fun loving. He's usually brash and has a rough and tumble attitude that sometimes upsets people, but usually means well. Straight forward and brutally honest, but very protective of his family.

He is the older of the Lyall twins but doesn't act like it. He is the most touchy feelly of the boys and the one who is likeliest to mow over Lei's personal space like it doesn't exist. In their pack he is the most submissive but he is also the most protective. Woe upon anyone who dares to hurt one of their own because Colin would come after them with a vengeance.

Even though is the quieter of the three brothers, he is the most stubborn. Even though Cailean has the presence of a future Alpha, and Channing the most steady, when Colin puts his foot (or paw) down, his foot (or paw) stays down.

And eventually, everybody concedes to him.

Lorelei Wong

Name: Lorelei Wong, Lei to the Pack.
Species: Human
Description: Dark hair, dark eyes, pale skin. Short (Petite, I'm petite!!), chubby-cheeked and soft-bodied (excuse me, I am full-figured). She's not fat but she's not slender, either.
Character: A goofball, always up to her neck in pranks with the three brothers; Cailean, Colin and Channing Lyall or as she calls them; her boys.

She knows she's not one of the cool kids, and she's okay with that. She's completely satisfied with her geek status at school. What she isn't satisfied is the complete and total lack of drama in her life, most especially the romantic kind. It's kind of hard getting a boyfriend when you have three boys looming over you all the time; snarling and growling whenever anyone gets too close.

Lei lives with her mother, Mey Wong, who is strict and kind of controlling but even her mother can't shake off the Lyall boys from sinking their claws in Lei despite her best efforts to do so.

Since That Day, that's what she called the day when she found out Cailean and his family are werewolves, Lei has been welcomed into the Lyall household like she's one of their own.

Cailean Lyall

Name: Cailean (Ka len) Lyall.
However, Lorelei calls him Kai. (at first not knowing how to pronounce his name, she went with the spelling...and it stuck)
Species: Werewolf
Description: Dark hair, dark eyes, dark complected. Deep set eyes, round cheekbones, strong jaw. Slenderly built with the promise of more as he grows older.
Character: Serious at times, has a certain straight forward quality to him that draws and repels. Mostly awkward around peoplem but around other werewolves and Lei he is confident and completely secure in himself.

Other werewolves are wary of him because he is starting to show Alpha traits; he changes faster, get less tired after changing back to human, and heals faster.

Doesn't really care much about the world around him, doesn't have a lot of ambition. He usually just ambles after Lei and his older brothers, the Twins. Smiles easily, jokes easily...but you know what they say about those kind of people, right?

His First Change, usually happens around puberty, caught his Pack by surprise. They were not ready for him which led to his escape and him meeting Lei...as a new wolf (wooops).

Where everything begins.

Like most of my stories, I always get the idea from my dreams. "Something Wicked" (temporary title) is no exception.

In my dream I see a teenage girl sitting around a campfire alone, totally focused on something she's holding in her hands. Thick lines of trees surrounding her and the camp where shadows stretch and lengthen and night sounds falls heavy on the ears.

Firelight chases the dark away and sparks dance in the air. The wind, a subtle whisper, all around.

The blood red of her jacket looked almost black in the light of bonfire and as she shifts in her seat, three silhouettes that look a lot like wolves slides across tree barks.

...yeah, I know. I know. Red Riding Hood, right? That is clear enough. If that isn't a scene for another werewolf horror movie, I don't know what is.

But as it turns out, the teenage girl is doing her homework and the three wolves canter into the campsite like frolicking puppies before changing into teenage boys right in front of her cynical, and totally unsurprised eyes. Instead of screaming her head off, she berates them for dragging her into the cold and damp forest and threatening revenge if she fails her biology test tomorrow.

One of the boys shakes his hair and shoulders, ridding his skin off raindrops before toweling off, grinning. "Aw, come on, Lei. It's tradition. Have some respect."

Lei, as they called her, harrumphed. "Not all of us can grow fur. It's cold out here. And wet. And dark."

The dream progresses into scenes which lead to other scenes and other scenes...and when I wake up, I practically have a full story on my hands, er, in my head.

And, since it's not going away, I think I can manage to write it down as a one stand-alone novel.

Funny thing is, it has all my trademarks:

Supernatural element: Werewolves, check.
Childhood friendship: Cailean, Colin, Channing and Lorelei, check.
Action sequence: Wolf and sword fights, check.
Family love: Lorelei and her boys and the boys parents and Lei's mother, check.
The clash of ambition, greed against faith, love and friendship, check.

But what kind of surprises me is the lack of romance between the two main characters: Cailean and Lorelei. Sure, they will have some romance scenes because they have to show some romantic interest in each other due to the situation...but the story doesn't depend on the romance rather than the friendship between them. Which is kind of awesome and troublesome in the same time. Since this will be a YA book, I don't think that it can work without romance....so maybe I have to change that. Maybe.

A big maybe, because I really like how the story goes just as it is. What do you think?
